What Is a Medication- Assisted Treatment?

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach to treating substance use disorders that combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies. The goal is to provide a “whole-patient” approach to recovery, addressing both the physical dependence and the emotional/psychological challenges of addiction.

Benefits of MAT

  • Reduces withdrawal discomfort
  • Lowers the risk of relapse
  • Improves treatment retention
  • Supports overall recovery and quality of life

MAT Care Partnership and Psychiatric Support

At Heritage Treatment Link, we work with RightQuest Recovery and Dr. Malack Nyokwoyo to help connect clients with important psychiatric and medication-related services as part of their treatment journey.

Through this partnership, clients in the program can receive onsite initial psychiatry assessments and medication evaluations. This helps address mental health and medication needs that may affect a person’s ability to engage in treatment.

Removing Barriers to Treatment

Opioid withdrawal or lack of access to mental health medications should not be a barrier to receiving needed treatment. At Heritage Treatment Link, we work to ensure clients have access to appropriate care and support so they can move forward with their treatment plan.

Our approach recognizes that substance use and behavioral health needs can overlap. Connecting clients with appropriate psychiatric assessment and medication evaluation can help support a more coordinated treatment experience.
